How to send files securely

A short guide to sharing files with VuTransfer—so recipients get what they need without leaving your documents sitting in an open inbox forever.

1. Create an account

Go to Sign In and create your VuTransfer account. Free plans work for smaller transfers; upgrade when you need more storage or advanced controls.

2. Start a new transfer

From the dashboard, create a transfer and add the files you want to send. Prefer uploading a single archive when you have many related files, so recipients download one package.

3. Set access rules

  • Choose an expiration date that matches how long the recipient needs access.
  • On supported plans, enable password protection for sensitive material.
  • Only share the link with people who should download the files.

4. Share the download link

Copy the transfer link and send it through email, chat, or your project tool. Avoid posting transfer links in public channels. If a link may have leaked, expire or revoke access and create a new transfer.

5. Confirm delivery and clean up

Ask the recipient to confirm they downloaded successfully. When the project is done, let the transfer expire or remove it so old links do not linger.

Security checklist

  • Do not reuse the same open link for unrelated projects.
  • Prefer short expirations for confidential drafts.
  • Use a unique password when the content is sensitive and your plan allows it.
  • Keep your VuTransfer account password strong and unique.
